Where did you live? What was it like? What is different about living in memphis in the 1960’s
“Well in the in 60’s I lived in east memphis on denwood street, it was a nice city with a nice assortment of people that lived here, you would consider us just a regular southern town”
What was a typical day like?
“Well a regular day was going to work at the import automotive business, I was across from the YMCA, I was a working man, worked from early till late in the evening, and hopefully a good father”
“our whole value and moral system has changed so much, things were more peaceful there was more respect for authority and the people who should be running things were running them.”
What do you remember about the day King was assassinated? What was different than normal? How did you feel? What did you think? Where were you when you heard? How did you react? How did people around you react? How did things change throughout the night?
The only thing I remember that there was a sanitation strike and he came in to represent the workers and it was just hard to believe, and to find out that that was real it was a real bad blow for Memphis.
Describe your night after King was shot? Where were you that night? What was the city like?
I was at home, it didn't affect my lifestyle all that much but I felt badly.
I thought he was a leader, and that he spoke nicely and he stood for a good cause, he made an impact on society.
Did life change at all after his death? Did people act different or view problems differently? Do you think people’s attitudes changed?
I think it changed somewhat. I think it took a few years after for things to really change .
