Alan : Where did you live? What was it like? What stands out living in memphis in the 1960s?
Sue : I lived in the city where there were noise everywhere I went. It was quite relaxing. The food stood out to me.
Alan : Describe your life in the 1960s. What was a typical day like for you in 1968? How was it different from today?
I was very young so a typical day for me was going to school and back. After, I would come home and play until it was time for dinner.
Alan : what do you remember about the day King was assassinated? What was different than normal? How did you feel? What do you think? Where were you when you heard? How did you react? How did people around you react? How did things change throughout the night?
Sue : I remember seeing my parents looking so worried. Everyone was either quiet or talking about it all around. I didn't quite understand what was going on at the time but the death of a person was as important to me. I reacted like how any other person would react if someone died. The other people such as older people and parents knew what was going on and they were talking about it for
quite a long time. Things changed throughout the night. People changed, everyone in memphis changed. Alan : Describe your night after king was shot? Where were you that night? What was city like?
Sue : I was a little kid then, of course. When I was playing in the living room in my parents house, I heard them talk about it. I don't quite remember how the city was.
Alan : What did you think of king before and after his death?
Sue : I thought he was a very great man. How he started a movement to bring all races together. After I had found out that King died, it was very sad but I will always remember his work.
Alan : Did life change after his death? Did people act different or view problems differently? Do you think peoples attitude changed? Sue : Yes it did, Kids at school didn't realize it yet but older people around me changed. Peoples attitude towards other races have changed. Instead of fighting, they made peace.
Alan : is there anything eles we haven't discussed?
Sue : As I was young, me and my friends at school did not exactly realize what was going on in the world at the time, but as we aged, we finally realize how lucky we are to have had MLK in our lives.
