Maxwell P. by Bobby B., Harding Academy

Maxwell P. moved to Memphis in 1967 at age 10 for his dad's work in the government. He lived in a high rise apartment in downtown Memphis and lived at home with his mom and sister while his dad was always at work. He was homeschooled by his mom because he never knew when his dad may have to change jobs and transfer. In the morning he generally worked with his sister on schoolwork then he and his sister and mother went walking downtown to look at the parks and river. One day on a Thursday when he was 11 years old maxwell was eating dinner with his family with his father home for once when they all heard commotion in the apartment lobby. His dad went to investigate then he aid that MLK had been shot. After dinner their parents sent them straight to bed and talked in the livingroom for the remainder of the night. Maxwell looked out onto the street and saw people wandering aimlessly and restlessly but they weren't causing trouble. The whole complex as filled with silent reverence rather than anger. Although he did not know much about king he noticed a change after his death on how people treated large gatherings and protests like this.
