In 1968, Judy T. was twenty-five years old. She was married with two children and lived in Memphis her whole life. She was a very busy woman, working outside the home and trying to get by. Martin Luther King, Jr. was in Memphis in the beginning of April to help support the African American sanitation workers. " The city was is a lot of turmoil at that time," says Judy. There were demonstrations being held throughout the city. On April 4, MLK was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel. The whole world was in shock. Judy's husband was working that night. The next day, the National Guard was sent to Memphis and a curfew was set. Judy was not very involved with the current events, but she has noticed that there has been a dramatic change since his assassination. It has obviously taken a long time though. Judy believes that there's still work that needs to be done.
