I interviewed my grandma Teresa W. She was 6 years old when Dr. King was assassinated. She told me she still to this day know how it felt. Horrible. Everyone was crying. She lived on 644 Scott St. Mphs Tn 38112. My grandma said she was poor but they never missed a meal.
The day Dr. King was assassinated she described there were so many police riding around. Everyone was crying and hollaring. She said she will never forget that day. She told me she didn't go to school that rest of that week. The job that her mom worked at "pickie's Iron Company" told her and he family to stay strong, they were white.
Teresa said its much different today. Now we have much more freedom and rights. She told me racist still is here but not as bad, she added she thanks god for his many blessings.
