For my essay on the assignation of Martin Luther King I enterviewed my grandfather Paul W. At the time of the assassination my granddad was 10 years old. It is a understatement to say the entire world was devastated by the death of MLK. Mr. King was a big factor in African-American culture, and with me being a young African- American lady he is definetly a very big part. Martin Luther Kings legacy continues to live on today.
It was a warm night on April 4th of 1968, Paul W. was sitting in his families small home in South Memphis listening to an old radio in the family room. They were listening to the news when it had been announced that MLK had been shot earlier that day. There small home was filled with a devastating silence. Young, 10 year old, Paul could not believe that his inspiration had been killed.
Memphis and every other city that Martin Luther King had touched with his encouraging words were saddened by the sudden death. Paul Woodard noticed that the hope for equal rights seemed to get smaller and smaller. Paul could not begin to wonder what MLK's family felt like. Paul was stilled faced with unjust treatment everywhere he went, he fully was able to understand the full length of what Dr. King said. Why should he be judged becuase the color of his skin and not the content of his character?
