Memphis in 1968 had a slower pace of life than today's and had significantly less technology. The amount if interaction with other people especially neighbors was also a lot higher than today. A typical day here for was walking to school if you were a kid and usually one parent going to work. The day Mr. King Jr was assassinated the person I interviewed was at home when she heard about it, her parents and another couple talked and decided to leave town temporarily in fear of a riot. Leaving town all of a sudden and people acting more tense made her feel scared and worried. They went to Norfolk, Arkansas and stayed in a cabin away from the stressed and on edge city of Memphis. Before King's death she didn't know much about him but after his death she learned more about him and thought he was a remarkable man who was trying to make the world a better place for everyone. After his death people seemed different and more tense and prejudice.
